Our formula works very well and our businesses sell for two to four times net profit. The net profit is used as the guideline for the down payment that would be paid by the buyer (usually a third of the total sale). Seller will usually finance the remaining balance for five years. The buyer is allowed and even encouraged to sit in the business long enough to do his due diligence and check the numbers. Buyer will be allowed and encouraged to bring in his own accountant or auditor to investigate that the financials of the business satisfy his expectations.
